Returning to work after maternity leave can feel like a big transition, but with the right support, it can also be an empowering one.

After a year away with my youngest, I came back to Bonanza Creative balancing work alongside life with my two children. Like many parents, I wasn’t sure how the transition would feel, but from day one I felt supported. Open conversations, flexibility, and trust made it much easier to step back into my role with confidence.

How Flexibility Works in Practice

With a one-year-old at home and a five-year-old in primary school, life is naturally busy and sometimes unpredictable. What’s made a real difference is being in a workplace where that’s genuinely understood.

Flexibility here isn’t just a policy, it’s part of how we work every day. Whether that’s adjusting my schedule around school drop-offs or being able to attend important moments like assemblies or “Star of the Week,” there’s a shared understanding that those things matter. Just as importantly, there’s trust that the work will get done.

That trust makes it possible to contribute fully at work while still being present at home, without feeling like I have to compromise on either.

Why the Work Feels Personal

What makes my role even more meaningful is the connection between our work and the communities we support.

At Bonanza Creative, we deliver engaging workshops in schools, helping children understand the complex topics around safety, financial literacy and sustainability. Older year groups at my child’s school have already taken part, and it’s likely my son will in the future. Knowing that my own children are part of the communities we support brings a real sense of pride to the work I do.

A Culture That Extends Beyond Work

That same sense of care extends internally too. The way we support schools and families is reflected in how we support each other as colleagues. There’s a genuine understanding that people have responsibilities outside of work. Acknowledging that leads to a stronger, more supportive team.

A Rewarding Return

Returning to work after maternity leave can often feel like a balancing act. While I expected some challenges, having the right support in place has made all the difference.

For me, coming back to work hasn’t just been manageable, it’s been a positive step forward. It’s allowed me to grow professionally while still being present for my family.
